The Monaco stage of the prestigious Longines Global Champions Tour, a Formula 1 world championship of equine horsepower, will host the world’s best riders for three days of unrivalled competition in the outstanding and unexpected setting of Monaco’s Port Hercule.
The Jumping International of Monte Carlo, one of the main trial in the Longines Global Champions Tour since its creation in 2006, is a horse jumping event unlike any other – taking place on the waterfront beneath the celebrated Rocher des Princes de Monaco. The setting up of an entire equestrian event in the middle of the busy harbour is a formidable challenge. The waterfront is transformed into a luxurious equine venue, requiring hauling in of vast quantities of specialized sand for the competition surface and the transformations of the dock into elegant stabling. Yes, these exceptional horses are housed right at the water’s edge alongside the world’s finest yachts – a rare signt indeed.
Each stage of the Longines Global Champions Tour is a Grand Prix which contributes points to a rider’s overall ranking. Each Grand Prix is endowed with a purse of 300 000 Euro, of which the winner receives 100 000. The tour’s eighteen best riders will share a purse of one million euros.
